AgentBox API Integration
Agentbox runs the listings, the contacts and the pipeline for a lot of Australian agencies. Putting it on a website well is less about the API reference and more about deciding what the site owns and what the CRM owns. Here is how we do it.
How the Agentbox API works
- Authentication. A client ID and API key issued per agency, sent as headers on each request. Keys are environment specific, so staging and production need their own.
- REST with includes. Endpoints such as
/listings,/contactsand/staffreturn JSON, with related records fetched through include parameters rather than separate round trips. Ask for what you need in one call and the sync stays well inside the rate limit. - Filtering and paging. Listings can be filtered by type, status and modified date, which is what makes an incremental sync practical: pull only what changed since the last run.
- Media. Images and floorplans arrive as URLs. We copy them at sync time and serve our own resized, modern formats rather than hotlinking.
How we build it
- Scheduled sync into your own data layer. The website renders from its own store, so a CRM outage or a slow response never becomes a broken listing page.
- Sale, lease and project stock handled separately. Each has different fields, different search filters and a different buyer. Modelling them as one listing type is the mistake that costs a rebuild later.
- Enquiries written back. Forms create the contact and the enquiry against the right listing and agent, with the source recorded so marketing spend can be attributed.
- Staff profiles from Agentbox. New agents appear automatically; bios and photos can be overridden on the site.
- URLs that survive. Sold listings keep their address-based URL and become proof of past sales rather than a 404, which is where a lot of a real estate site's organic traffic comes from.
What to check before you start
Confirm which office IDs the key covers if the agency has more than one, and agree the rule for withdrawn and off-market stock up front. Both are cheap decisions at the start of a build and expensive ones after launch.
A standard Agentbox build, feed through to enquiry sync, runs two to three weeks once API credentials are issued.
